Punta Arenas, Chile...

And so I ventured further south...my southern most journey in life thus far...to Punta Arenas...Chile's most southern city...like Argentinian Patagonia, Punta Arenas has also made seen great wealth come through sheep (albeit, I think to a select number of immigrant families rather than the entire local population)...the downtown mansions once owned by prominent sheep grazing families are grand...

The cemetery is also something to behold...bursting at the seams with mini mausoleums containing numerous members of the aristocratic families...most of the families had roots in the UK, Croatia or central Europe...

To demonstrate that the wealth has not been entirely spread around, you only have to venture down to the back of the grand cemetery and observe the 'chicken coop' burial sites...

And is certainly a rougher edge to Punta Arenas...

Parts of the 'promenade' to the Magellan Strait (which in most parts of the world would be prime real estate) are lined with nothing more than tin shed houses and rubbish dumps...

This is the view from the house above...

And there were a hell of a lot of dogs around the neighbourhood...all mostly friendly...

Next stop: back to BA
